SPARE JEANS is a jeans maker established in 2014 and led by Prospero Rey. Proudly Canadian, the brand designs and manufactures custom made jeans in Montreal. Each pair of jeans is produced from raw denim, carefully selected and worked by a small team, from design to construction.
PROSPERO REY
Prospero Rey’s work sits at the intersection of denim and formal tailoring. Born in the Philippines, he established his first workshop, Antik Jeans, in Manila at the age of eighteen, producing jeans from start to finish. After relocating to Montreal in the 1980s, he worked professionally as a pattern maker, building a practice that spans more than fifty years across garment making.
Alongside denim, Prospero spent decades producing made to measure wedding garments. This parallel practice informs a way of making jeans attentive to detail and balance.
OUR APPROACH
We work closely with each customer throughout the process. Fit, proportion, thread, hardware, and construction details are discussed openly, with decisions made through conversation rather than fixed options or standardized systems.
This way of working preserves a direct relationship between maker and wearer, one that has largely disappeared from contemporary denim production, and one we remain committed to.
